How To Stop Your Toothache

el paso toothaches

When you have a toothache, this could lead to issues in your daily routine, and also mean the presence of tooth decay and dental infection. Which is why we need to offer treatment to stop your toothache! In today’s blog, Sunny Smiles looks at the causes of toothaches, and how we can stop them with natural looking fillings.

The Causes of a Toothache

Does your tooth hurt? Then let us know! While some people experience temporary aches due to factors like sinus infection, allergies, changes in elevation, or even winter weather, these aches pass after only a few hours. For a toothache that lasts for more than a day could mean the presence of a cavity, and lack of attention could mean that cavity has a chance to become an even more painful infection, one that could even threaten the stability of your smile.

Treatment with a Filling

Our team will carefully examine the tooth with digital x-rays, so we can identify the presence of tooth decay and assess the severity. From there, we can decide on the best course of treatment. In many cases, we will use a filling to treat the issue in one visit. We don’t use metal, and instead opt for a metal free material we can color match to blend with the tooth. Our team will numb the tooth and then remove all decay. We then clean the tooth and apply composite resin, shade to match the tooth, in several layers. We then sculpt the tooth as the light cures beneath a light, finally polishing it for a brighter appearance.

Crowns and Root Canals

For more advanced cases of tooth decay, we may instead need to cap the tooth with a dental crown, one custom-made to ensure a balanced bite and of course, a lifelike appearance, as we often select all-porcelain or porcelain-fused-to-metal. If a tooth is infected, then we could use a root canal to stop toothaches and prevent tooth loss. The process involves numbing the tooth and removing the tissues from the interior of the tooth. We then add a restorative material and cap the tooth with a custom crown, so you enjoy a complete smile.

Preventive Actions

You could also lower your risk of cavity and aching teeth by brushing and flossing daily, eating less items high in sugar, and seeing us for a checkup and cleaning visit every six months. If you have any questions, then give our team a call today.
