Accidents happen, and sometimes this can leave someone with a chipped or cracked tooth, or even one that has been knocked-out. But we can help! With emergency dentistry, your team at Sunny Smiles can provide relief from discomfort and lifelike repair with custom crowns and more.
Responding to Your Damaged or Aching Teeth
A dental emergency can happen when we bite down on something hard that chips or cracks a tooth. Or a sports injury could break a tooth or even knock one loose or out completely! When this happens, you can take immediate steps to ease discomfort and further complications. For example, be sure you rinse with warm water and then apply cloth or gauze to the area to stem the bleeding. To keep facial swelling under control, apply a cold compress or ice pack to the side of your face. You can also try to recover any pieces of your tooth if possible, and bring it with you. If a tooth is knocked-out completely, then only pick it up by the crown, not the roots, and place it in a sealed container of milk or salt water and bring it with you. If you are proceeding directly to us, you can also gently place the tooth back on the socket and bite down carefully to keep it in place until we can see you.
Seeing Our Team
Give us a call right away when the dental emergency happens. If we are open, we will try to see you same-day for emergency care. If not, please leave a message so that a team member can reach out with possible appointment times. In the meantime, you can also take an over-the-counter pain reliever to help ease your discomfort. Remember, lack of care means the tooth is exposed and sensitive, and the risk of cavities and infections also higher, so see us as soon as possible, even if the injury appears minor.
A Look at Our Custom Restorations
If you have a minor injury, we could potentially address it quickly with composite resin, the same material we use in our filling procedures. This material can be shaded to blend with the tooth and application takes only a short period. If the injury is more substantial, then we could create and place a crown. If a tooth is lost and it cannot be recovered, then we could discuss options like bridges or even dental implants to address the gap.
