Don’t Ignore A Potential Dental Emergency

el paso dental emergency

If you have pain in a tooth, or if a tooth has been chipped or cracked, these are just a few examples of a dental emergency. Without treatment, your tooth could be vulnerable to tooth decay and even painful infections! To avoid tooth loss and discomfort, you need to see your El Paso, TX, dentists for emergency dental care.

When You Have a Dental Emergency

What constitutes a dental emergency? We consider any damage or discomfort in the mouth that isn’t potentially life threatening to be a dental emergency, and we urge you to give our team a call. This could include sudden toothaches, objects caught between the teeth, or loose/missing fillings and crowns. Cracked and chipped teeth, even if the damage appears minor, will need attention. If a tooth is knocked loose or out completely, then let us know right away. Without treatment, these issues could lead to complications, including cavities and infection that increase the risk of eventual tooth loss.

Easing Discomfort

After you call, you can take steps to help ease your discomfort. For example, be sure to rinse with warm water and take an over-the-counter pain reliever. If you have something caught between teeth gently floss on each side of the tooth. If you have chipped a tooth, see if you can recover any pieces and bring them with you. If a tooth is knocked out completely, pick it up only but the crown, never the root, and place it in a glass of milk or salt water and bring them with you. Cloth or gauze can control bleeding, and a cold compress or ice pack can reduce facial swelling.
